Rangan Banerjee, a Forbes Marshall Chair Professor and Head of the Department of Energy Science and Engineering- (a Department that he helped start in 2007.) at IIT Bombay He has expertise in engineering models of conventional energy systems, renewables, building simulation as well as energy-economy models – Input-Output, TIMES-MARKAL.. He has been involved in setting up a 1MW solar thermal power plant cum research facility and is the faculty advisor for Team Shunya (India’s first team to participate in the Solar Decathlon Europe finals in 2014). He was a part of TIFACs Technology vision 2035 and the Convening Lead Author for Industrial Energy Efficiency for the Global Energy Assessment coordinated by IIASA. He was a member of the International Expert Committee to review UKs energy research programme in 2010.
He has received the Excellence in Teaching Award from IIT Bombay and is a Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering and a Fellow of the World Society of Sustainable Energy Technologies.. .He has been the Dean (R&D) of IIT Bombay and is an Adjunct faculty (Honorary) in the Department of Engineering & Public Policy, Carnegie Mellon University, Pittburgh.. He has a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and a PhD from IIT Bombay
